Diocese of Monterey, CA- Celebrates Faith and Diversity
The Diocese of Monterey seeks to celebrate the Catholic faith and all the richness of cultural diversity, recognizing all different customs, traditions, languages and other richness of the various ethnic groups and nationalities. As part of this effort, Mrs.Socorro Lagarda-Quiroz, M.A.P.M., Director of Hispanic Ministry asked the Congar Institute for Ministry Development to facilitate the USCCB’s Building Intercultural Competence for Ministers (BICM) preparation for the diocesan lay leadership. Laura Lopez and Sr. Ruth Bolarte, resource persons for the Congar Institute, facilitated the workshop in Spanish.
The BICM workshop aims to be a transformative process that increases the participant’s level of awareness and proficiency in working, relating and communicating across cultural boundaries, including the diversity of Hispanic/Latino cultures and their diversity of generations in addition to other non-Hispanic cultures. By attending this workshop the participants increased the capacity to welcome, receive, and encourage all emerging cultural groups to assume their role of leadership in the Church.
