For many people, the last couple of years has been a time of tremendous affliction with Covid, the war in Ukraine, mass shootings, and many others situations of destruction. We could say that in the midst of all these tragedies, many are still surviving. They have not lost hope thanks to the good will and generosity of many communities helping them to endure these tragedies and to strengthen their lives. Therefore, in all these situations, we can appreciate that community is indeed a source of hope. When we are struggling, when we are down, it is very consoling to see how a community cares for us and, most importantly, invites to be part of it so that we do not lose the sense of who we really are.
The celebration of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity is an opportunity for us to reflect on our understanding of God as a community of persons in which the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one, and for this reason each one is in one another. In the same manner, this Divine Community wants each one of us to be part of them and enjoy the same life. This is the reason why the Word became flesh in the Son and – thanks to his passion, death and resurrection – the Holy Spirit is given to us. Belonging to this Divine Community allows us to hold fast and to proclaim: We are not alone! In this sense our communities are the hope that sustains and nourishes our lives.
