Reflection Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle A
As I reflected on the Gospel we heard yesterday at Mass (Matthew 5:38-48), the word “fairness” came to mind along with memories from childhood and raising our three children. As a child I recall saying, “That’s not fair!” I also heard the same from the mouths of our children. The response often was, “Sorry, life is not fair”.
Is Jesus telling me to go the extra mile??? Is He telling me to think longand hard before responding??? Is he asking me to reflect on what type of person I strive to be???
We are called to do as He would do Himself. Jesus reminds us that we are called to love all God’s people; not only those we call friends. When love and prayer is the last thing we want to do for someone with whom we have a difficult relationship, He asks that we bring those situations to Him, asking for help. We are only asked to do as He would do—a challenge for most of us.
What challenges are you going to bring to Jesus this week?
Gracious God, I know you are with me on my journey of life. May those who challenge me be examples of your unconditional love. Grant me the wisdom I need as I strive to do your will. Forgive me when I try to do things my way. Thank you for the grace and blessings you abundantly give me as I face these challenges. In your name I pray. Amen.
