Hope is something people need during this seemingly unending pandemic. However, the hunger for hope existed long before the pandemic. I was asked to do a workshop, entitled “Disciple of Hope” in Florida. At the completion of the program, an Irish priest shared with me that what we discussed was sorely needed in Ireland. He arranged with the bishops and priests of Ireland to have me do the workshop in the north, south, east, and west of Ireland for the clergy and laity. Not long after, I received a call from a bishop in Ghana, Africa, who had read about the program and invited me to come to Ghana. He declared that the people in the diocese and the neighboring diocese needed hope. It was then that I realized that the hunger for hope was a universal need.
Each of us is called to be a disciple of hope. Engage in prayer with the Holy Spirit to discern those you interact with daily who hunger for hope and respond by witnessing God’s hope to them.
