“Come, follow me”. The ways of following Jesus are as unique and varied as people themselves. He calls us by name in quiet times of our lives or in the midst of the busy times of our lives. When we hear the call and respond we experience change in our lives. We challenge ourselves to be the face of God and do His Will; to bring the Good News to others.
At times when reading about the Apostles or Saints we are overcome with feelings of inadequacy. They met the challenges in their lives and overcame them. Am I worthy??? Can I be the person God calls me to be? Each time we go to Mass we say the words, “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof, but only say the word and my soul shall be healed”. When we receive the Eucharist, we receive the peace that can only come through Christ, food for our unique journey, strength and hope from God even when we feel unworthy of his love.
I believe we each have a role to play in maintaining and growing the Kingdom of God. Some days the steps we take seem small, yet not in God’s eyes. By striving to live a life honoring Jesus and supporting and caring for those He places in our lives, we are sharing the gifts God has blessed us with.
Gracious God, we have heard your voice. We have felt your call. We have turned and dropped our “nets”. We follow you, one shaky step at a time. What do you desire of us? We follow you not because we know where you lead us, but because we know it is you, God, who leads us. Our hands desire the sureness of the “nets” we have come to know in our hands. Now we open our hands and hearts with faith. Lead us, guide us, as we journey with you at our side. For we know you never guaranteed an easy journey, but you promise to be with us on our journey. Amen.
