The Diocese of Salt Lake City continues to partner with the Congar Institute. Now celebrating 15 years of collaboration, the Office of Faith Formation adapted to the Covid crisis by switching to monthly Zoom classes for 10 men and women in the second year of their four year LEM formation program. “We are grateful to the Institute for the lively discussions, spiritual formation, and challenging content Resource Persons continually offer to our people,” commented Susan Northway, Diocesan Director. This year this diocese offered an online Lenten retreat day open to all adults in the diocese. Bishop Oscar A. Solis, D.D. introduced the new format in a short video that set the tone for a “deeply spiritual experience.” Resource Persons, Fr. Roger H. Keeler, JCD and Fray Sergio Serrano, O.P. provided 50 minutes of preaching recorded on film with links posted to the diocesan website. The theme reflected Pope Francis’ Lenten focus on renewing faith, hope and love in the Year of Saint Joseph. After the presentations, a number of lay ministers offered Zoom small discussion groups with their friends. They used reflection questions specially prepared by the retreat masters and we hear that the Office of Faith Formation received favorable comments from many participants.
