Today we celebrate the Feast of Saint Luke the Evangelist. As we reflect on the gospel reading (Lk.10:1-9), Jesus instructed His companions to go out and continue His call and mission.
Who are these seventy-two disciples we hear about today in the Gospel of Luke? They were instructed to take nothing with them on their journey. Do you feel like one of these seventy-two? As we minister to those in our parishes and people God places in our lives during these challenging times we realize we are traveling on unchartered pathways as we deal with COVID and all the repercussions.
I pray that God will guide us to be compassionate to those we come in contact with. We too are sent to bring the Good News. We are given the same instructions the Apostles received, “take nothing with you”. Disciples were sent out on a mission with no money bag, no sack, no sandals. What do you need for your mission?
As I reflected on what I need for the mission God sends me on these thoughts came to mind…
With a keen sense of God as the center of my live I will have the strength and essentials for the journey.
I am reminded to honor God above all things giving me balance for my journey.
My prayer is that as I interact with people I am lifegiving in both word and deed.
Gracious God, You chose Saint Luke to reveal Your love in his writing. May we grow on our journey as we read his words in his Gospel and by his example. May we look to Saint Luke to guide us, teach us, and pray for us. We ask this through Jesus Christ, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
