Reflection Thirty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time – Cycle B
The passage from the Gospel of Mark we heard yesterday gave us much to reflect on…
Even in our darkest hour the Lord does not abandon us. His eyes are always upon us; night and day. Jesus speaks of being our guard for what we do not know the day or the hour when we will be called to Him. If we listen and hear His words, staying close to Him as we journey, we have nothing to fear. His gift to us is His presence until the end of time.
We are born to fulfil God’s purpose. We hear in the Gospel an analogy to a fig tree as it bears fruit or remains barren. In the parable the fig tree bears no fruit, it is wasting space. This parable calls us to act on our faith and to complete the work Jesus set out to accomplish. If you look back over this past year, can you say that nothing has changed in your living the Word of God, bearing fruit? What God has produced through you??? Perhaps something for you to reflect on….
We are called to read scripture, then go out and allow the words to produce much fruit. Our lives shorten with each breath we take. When we live our faith as God calls us to we are not wasting away; rather we bear much fruit. We are called to worship God first and then go out to make disciples. It is the very act of going out that produces fruit that fulfills God’s purpose in us. Often the production of fruit is not visible to us, for that is not our call, rather God sees and smiles as we do His will.
May God Bless us on our journey as we walk with Him.
