Reflection Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Cycle A
Yesterday we heard parables in the Gospel Reading (Mt 13:24-43: Weeds in the field…Mustard seed…Yeast. Why would Christ choose such simple objects to describe the Kingdom of God? God chooses to work through small things, simple things and let them grow. He smiles as the seeds of faith sown in us, and all His children, grow and blossom.
The beauty and gift of faith is a virtue that takes root in us. We may not comprehend it at times, but God is with us in the process. He nurtures us so our roots grow deep and secure; and our trunk and branches extend and strengthen. At times we are shaken to the core by things that happen, but we compose ourselves, pick ourselves back up relying on our foundation of faith, and stand strong. There are also times when we are in need of pruning so that we can once again blossom and be the gift He desires and calls us to be.
Faith is an outward motion from within us that spreads; growing and bearing fruit for others.
At the moments of struggle, let us take time to see the opportunities God is offering us so that His love goes forth from within us to His Holy People. He is calling us to care for the least of our brothers and sisters…
Gracious God, In my humanity, I come to You with faith as small as a mustard seed, I believe that with You, nothing is impossible.
Guide me on my faith journey and plant Your Word in my heart. Help me to remember that You are in control; instruct me as I seek Your plans for me.
