Sometimes a signpost is a life-changing moment.
Recently we contemplated the story of the rich young man Jesus invited to “Come follow me”. In yesterday’s Gospel passage (Mk. 10:46-52), Jesus told the blind man he had just cured, “Go your way.”
There’s much to each story that led up to Jesus’ differing invitations regarding their next steps. And there are differences in what happened next because of each one’s choice. Yet there is something these and other Gospel passages have in common: they are about a moment in time when someone experiences a fundamental change in their life. Jesus has a way of drawing each person deeply into this moment as well as drawing them beyond this moment into what they have never seen. After life-changing moments, yes: life really is different. And it won’t be changing back to the way it was before.
Questions for reflection:
What has been a life-changing moment in my life?
How would I describe the “before” and “after” of that moment?
How did that moment change my experiences of God and God’s grace?
