For Catholics, "Amen" is perhaps the most dangerous word. The danger and courage it demands depend on the context. While saying "Amen" in agreement or at the end of a routine prayer is generally safe, it is the "Amen" in response to "The Body of Christ" or "The Blood of Christ" that holds significant weight. This "Amen" ties us to the profound love demonstrated by Jesus, who was executed for challenging the religious norms of his time that restricted access to God's love and mercy.
One element that stands out for me is the table. Sunday dinners are a cherished tradition in Italian families like mine, with many traditions shared through word and action. We have all experienced many different events around a table. Moments of celebration given and received. Some are with family and friends, and others are fellowship with strangers; some are also with sadness in our hearts for a person who is absent. Much more transpires at a table than consuming food, as did this last meal with Jesus.

Fr. Ray John suggested the scriptural encounters offered insights into our identity as individuals, communities of faith, and church. There is also the parallel question of how we are to be and what we are to be doing as people of faith.

I have had the beautiful opportunity to serve in the Diocese of Salt Lake City. Thanks to Congar Institute, I preached a retreat for the Hispanic laity of the State of Utah. The enthusiasm of the laypeople was noticeable at first glance. Many came a long way to participate in the retreat. The atmosphere was one of joy for the encounter.
I will be working with children on the Autism Spectrum. I have decided to pursue this path to give back to an amazing community that has given to my family.
Observing that many theologically trained lay ecclesial ministers have received preaching formation but do not receive an ecclesial commission to preach, participants explored whether a theological case can be made for the Church to charge or commission a more extensive and diverse pool to preach the Word of God at the Eucharist, including qualified lay preachers and evangelists.
I would like to take a moment to express my profound gratitude to all those who offered prayers, words of support, and memorial gifts at the death of my sister Faye Cavalier in early December. Faye and I were very close and shared a great deal of our history and ways of thinking.
